CONGRESSWOMAN JANE HARMAN TO VISIT
APPLIED SIGNAL TECHNOLOGY'S NEUTRON IMAGING INSPECTION
TEST FACILITY
SUNNYVALE, CA, August 10, 2005 – U.S. Rep. Jane Harman (D-Venice), Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and a member of the Homeland Security Committee, is scheduled to tour Applied Signal Technology Inc.'s (NASDAQ - APSG) Neutron Imaging Inspection Test Facility in Torrance, California on Friday, August 19, 2005. This visit includes a demonstration of APSG’s advanced neutron imaging detection system, neu-VISION™.
As a leading Congressional expert on terrorism and homeland security issues, Congresswoman Harman recognizes the need for new technologies that address the changing threats to our homeland security. APSG's neu-VISION™-based on Associated Particle Imaging (API) technology—is a key enabler for a wide range of critical national and homeland security missions. neu-VISION™ is a portable neutron imaging system that detects and classifies explosives, hazardous chemicals, toxic industrial materials, nuclear/radiological materials, and other concealed dangerous substances. This innovative neutron imaging system serves an important role in the nation's integrated security capability with its unique combination of barrier penetration, three-dimensional representation, material identification, and operational flexibility.
“South Bay companies continue to lead in the innovation of new technologies critical to improving homeland security," Harman said. "Government must continue its teamwork with the private sector to provide the highest level of protection to Americans here at home.”
“The Company's investment in this facility represents an aggressive initiative to address one of our Nation's most challenging homeland security problems. The technologies developed here through our investment, as well as investments from our government partners in the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and Department of Homeland Security, will enhance port and checkpoint security around the world as well as here in Southern California, providing a portable screening and material identification capability,” says William Van Vleet, Executive Vice President of APSG's Sensor Signal Processing Group, formerly Dynamics Technology, Inc.
Located in the Torrance Technology Complex, the 1,900 square-foot development and test facility consists of offices, electronics fabrication/test area, and a certified radiation laboratory to operate the API neutron generator.
The tour of the new facility is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM, and will include remarks by Congresswoman Jane Harman.
