Comtech EF Data and Applied Signal Technology Win Award
for Teleport Technology of the Year
World Teleport Association recognizes Comtech EF Data and
Applied Signal Technology’s "Excellence in the Field of Teleport Operations,
Development, and Technology” at the twelfth annual Teleport Awards for Excellence
SUNNYVALE, California, March 14, 2007 – Comtech EF Data Corp. and Applied Signal Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ – APSG) have been bestowed the prestigious award of Teleport Technology of the Year by the World Teleport Association (WTA), a New York-based trade organization that focuses on the business of satellite communications from the ground up. The award was presented on February 20, 2007, during WTA’s twelfth annual Teleport Awards for Excellence Ceremony and Luncheon at the SATELLITE 2007 conference in Washington, D.C.
Comtech EF Data and Applied Signal Technology ( United States) were one of three finalists in the Teleport Technology of the Year category for their DoubleTalk™ Carrier-in-Carrier® (C-in-C) product, which is embedded within Comtech EF Data’s CDM-Qx Multi-channel modem. Carrier-in-carrier is a world-class bandwidth compression technology that uses “adaptive cancellation,” Applied Signal Technology’s patented technology that allows transmit and receive carriers of full-duplex satellite links to be transmitted in the same transponder space. When combined with advanced forward error correction and modulation techniques, C-in-C can deliver unprecedented operating expense savings.
A unanimous selection by WTA’s Technology of the Year committee, C-in-C was cited for its ability to reduce bandwidth requirements by 50 percent nominally, while keeping equivalent throughput and performance.
“If you sign the checks for space segment, then this technology must be considered a true innovation that will continue to create value and shift the economics for anyone who chooses to adopt this method,” said Louis A. Zacharilla, director of development for World Teleport Association, quoting one of the members of the awards committee. Zacharilla once again served as the emcee of the twelfth annual awards luncheon and ceremony.
The luncheon was attended by over 135 members, guests, and representatives from WTA. Attendees included the WTA executive committee, consisting of senior management, past winners, and select representatives from the association’s three regions: the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
“We are thrilled to receive the prestigious Teleport Technology of the Year award,” said Steve Ruddy of Applied Signal Technology’s Corporate Business Development Office. “To be commended by the WTA and our industry peers at such an important event as SATELLITE 2007 is extremely gratifying, and recognizes the importance placed on these disruptive innovations that help to create significant economies throughout the entire value chain, from innovator to end-user.”
