DeepSEE™ – Autonomous Underwater Vehicle with Synthetic Aperture Sonar for High Resolution Seafloor Imaging

Advanced AUV mine hunting system provides wide-area, high resolution undersea imaging
Processes high-resolution SAS imagery onboard a 12.75-inch diameter AUV
Provides over 25 times greater resolution at range with a 300-percent increase in area coverage compared to conventional sidescan sonars
Simple, reconfigurable hull section with payloads for synthetic aperture sonar, ISR, and optical surveillance for use within the 12.75inch diameter AUV. Only power and vehicle navigation measurements need to be supplied.
High resolution SAS array is mounted on a pressure vessel containing the sonar electronics, PROSAS™ signal processing boards, and data recording system
Included power conditioning electronics allow a variety of power sources from the main vehicle
Includes PROSAS automated, full-swath, real-time SAS processor, and MINESCOUT™ extensible mission analysis workstation with custom SAS and sidescan displays, survey post-processing tools, automatic target recognition (ATR), and information management

Applications
Covert mine hunting and reconnaissance
Oil/gas/geophysical survey
Rapid environmental assessment
Seabed mapping
Harbor security

Features
SAS processing onboard vehicle - user only need playback data upon vehicle retrieval
Post-mission analysis workstation with MINESCOUT data playback
Two-sided sonar system with 150-meter range/side
Low power (< 200 watts, 2-sided) signal processing boards with a mission life of approximately 22-24 hours (sortie runtime in hours)
Modular hull section houses sonar arrays and processing electronics; can fit in the mid-section of the 12.75-inch diameter AUV
Vehicle programmed with user interface that enables high-level mission objective planning, execution, and playback
One-inch seafloor imaging resolution

Benefits
Real-time streaming SAS imagery
Provides extraordinary area coverage, providing both imagery and bathymetry at a high degree of spatial resolution
Identifies mine-like objects and cables not detected by conventional sidescan sonars
Excellent clutter rejection
Automatic computer-aided detection and classification (CAD/CAC)
