Q. What is your current work experience and on-the-job training like at Raytheon AST?

A.

One of the things I liked about starting at Raytheon AST was that I was involved in real work from the first day and for most of the time I have been working here, I have had an FPGA where I was the person responsible for the current revision. It has allowed for a lot of independence and learning, along with being able to see what I have done to contribute to the project. However, even though I am working independently, there is a help available. Even after being here two years, I still go to more experienced members of the project for guidance. Because of this, the “on-the-job training” has not been something formally organized, but is a huge part of what I am doing.

Q. What is your greatest achievement at Raytheon AST?

A.

I was able to get a new card from the initial prototype from the manufacturer and take it from helping the subcontractor with the initial testing through several releases of the FPGA on the card. It was a great experience to be responsible for the design from the beginning and then see it actually get put into use.

Q. How did you find out about Raytheon AST?

A.

I found out about Raytheon AST from a campus career fair and was interested in the type of work done here. The biggest thing that attracted me was being able to work on FPGAs, which was what I was most interested in doing but was not an opportunity that other companies I was looking at offered much of.

Q. What do you like best about working for Raytheon AST?

A.

There are always interesting work and challenges. Raytheon AST has a good environment and great people to work with.

Q. What advice would you give to people interested in starting a career at Raytheon AST?

A.

First, I would absolutely recommend coming to Raytheon AST. I would also encourage them to be prepared to learn a lot very quickly and to not worry about asking too many questions. There is a huge amount to learn at the beginning but everyone is willing to help and you will be able to make real contributions from the start, even while you are still learning.

Q. What are some of your interests outside of work?

A.

Playing and watching sports, playing the piano, scrapbooking.
